If you have answered YES to more than ONE of the above questions, you have a chance of developing Osteoporosis. The more the number of times you have answered YES the greater is your risk of developing Osteoporosis.

The WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) studies put put people of Asian origin at a high risk of developing Osteoporosis. If you are an Indian, you already are in the 'high risk' category.
 
 

What Causes Osteoporosis?

The causes of osteoporosis are not fully known; however, we do know that certain factors are associated with an increased risk of the disease.

Some of these factors include:

  •  Being Female
  •  A Small, Thin Frame
  •  A Family History of Osteoporosis
  •  Early Menopause
  •  Hormones (particularly the female sex hormone Estrogen and thyroid hormones)
  •  Low Calcium Diet
  •  Lack of Exercise
  • Prolonged use of steroids
  • Smoking
  • Excessive Alcohol Intake
